Media upload problems
Why an image or file upload might fail, and how to get it in — file types, sizes, and connection tips.
If an image or file won't upload to an activity, it's almost always the file rather than your account. Here's how to get it in.
Check the file first
- File type. Use a standard image format (such as JPG or PNG) for pictures. Unusual or non-image formats may be rejected.
- File size. Very large files can be refused or time out. If a photo is huge, resize or export it smaller before uploading — screen presentation doesn't need a massive original.
- Corrupt or partial files. If a file was downloaded incompletely, the upload can fail. Re-download or re-export it and try again.
Check your connection
- A slow or dropping connection can stall an upload midway. Switch to a stronger network and retry.
- Very large files over a weak connection are the classic failure — shrinking the file often fixes it outright.
For slide-deck imports
Importing a PDF or PowerPoint is heavier than a single image and takes longer to process, especially for big decks. Give it time before assuming it failed. If a deck won't import, try a smaller export or split it. See Import a slide deck.
Quick fixes that usually work
- Resize the image and try again — this resolves most failures.
- Convert an odd format to JPG or PNG.
- Refresh the editor and re-upload.
- Switch networks if you're on marginal Wi-Fi.
If uploads fail across the board even with small, standard files, check that your browser is up to date — see Supported browsers & devices.
